Woke late for our first full day on the road...
Brunch at Nate & Al's on N.Beverly, a short walk from the Luxe. Kids blown away by the choices; i don't think they could quite catch the options the lady was throwing at them at a million miles an hour for every part of the meal eg. breads...wheat, rye, sour dough, white, etc. Choice is amaizng and most things are kosher. In fact the amount of Judaica, Jewish newspapers and general Jewish stuff is unbelievable. Found a Jewish newspaper on the street today full of amazing stuff. Imagine the fact we're in Beverly Hills has a lot to do with it.
In the afternoon we drove to Burbank where H & G went to watch the Ellen show being recorded and the boys and N went on a 2 hour tour of this huge historic filmmaking complex. It was fascinating. We toured in a long elongated golf buggy and spent time in the sound studio where they make Two and a half men. Saw a number of other studios where classics such as Casablanca have been made. Unfortunately they ban cameras in certain areas. We learned a lot about the process and how long it takes to make an episode eg. 1 week for a TV sitcom like Two and a Half Men..Monday...discuss script Tues begin rehearsing...Friday shoot it and can it. While Warners started out as a feature film studio, nowadays 80% of what they make is for TV due to high cost of actors, etc for feature films. Often big studios comibne for feature films. Risk and cash flow are much better in TV.
After buying a few souvenirs in the shop we met up with girls at Lisa's office. They had an amazing time, with a lot of spent dancing pre and during the show. Eva Mendez was the main star on the show along with the 'new' guy on Gray's Anatomy. At the end they received big surprise with the announcement that everyone was to receive a watch, a $200 Nike gift voucher and a trip to the snow including lift passes and accom (which we gave to the Hackners). All in all a huge thrill I'm sure G will never forget. Thank you Lisa!
In the evening we had dinner with the Hackners in Brentwood at a very nice Italian restaurant. Food and service were great. We toyed with checking out Sunset Boulevard's viby night scene by decided instead to browse Rodeo before retiring to our room.
Am finding the driving pretty straightforward and have adapted well to the wrong side of the road.
Organised our Tmobile US sims which allow us to make free calls nationally after 7pm and to phone other Tmob users any time for free. Great value all round. Our number are:
