SUNDAY early!
For some reason they couldn’t check our bags at the hotel (system had blocked us out) which was a bummer as we’d been looking forward to it. Still the Disney Magical Express took us right close to the checkin counter and we checked in without a hassle. Orlando International is one of the most stunning airports in the world, best I’ve seen. There is a Hyatt hotel right in the centre with the gate entry points in the lobby! Amazing shopping too, including Brookstone, L’Occitane, Kennedy Space Centre, Harley Davidson, etc.
We had a bite there and then headed for the gate. Then the fun started. For some crazy reason the Shofer family of 5 with 3 kids was singled out for a special search. At first when pulled aside we thought we were getting special treatment, you know escort direct to the plane. However we soon realised that our myriads of carry-ons were going to be thoroughly checked including for traces of explosives. Belts and shoes off, stand with arms and leg apart and we were all searched including Benjy! Glad it wasn’t a strip search. The kids found it funny and Gab couldn’t stop laughing.. There must have been 10 trays with out stuff in it to try and retrieve. And no smiles from the guys carrying it out. At least a woman (big black one) searched the girls. I could understand it when I had a mo but not since I took it off. 911 has made domestic travel in the US a long and tedious affair. You just have to expect it.
The plane was delayed 30 minutes, apparently due to weather in Atlanta which sounds ominous. Things are about to get a whole lot colder. Next stop Atlanta (written on the plane).
