We've observed the following things here which are different or strange (to us):
• The water level in toilets is very high which can be a hazard for the unwitting
• Soda at meal time is bottomless whether you want it to be or not
• You pay for ‘gas’ before you can ‘go pumping’ and then have to go back inside to get your change
• The hot and cold taps often turn in opposite directions which is very confusing
• When using light switches... down is off; gets me everytime
• Water and bread are brought to the table free, often before you order (I’m usually full by the time my meal arrives)
• Entrees are main courses (still get this one wrong)
• As for walking on the right side…
• Freeways are Turnpikes??
• Checkout in hotels is automatic unless you have a query
• There is no international sport on tv or in the newspapers
• Meat is the default meal, very little veg, but millions of steakhouses
• Not seen much gluten free stuff
• Yiddishkeit seems to abound wherever we've been

For some reason your blog shows today as the 6th ?? Loved the observations. The toilet water level also got me when I was there. Just never look back when makin a number 2. The toilet doors also open in the opposite way which led to a lot of laughs with continual banging.
ReplyDeleteWe made same observations. Toilet one has caught us a few times.
ReplyDeleteNot all taps switch on by turning - some require "gear like" movement.
This is what makes these types of holidays so interesting.
